The Swiss driver’s license is fully recognized in the USA. The international driver’s license is only valid in conjunction with the Swiss driver’s license and is therefore not really necessary.
The minimum age for renting a car is usually 21 years. For drivers under 25 years, a rather high surcharge is then levied on site. Ask your travel agent for detailed advice on the latest rental conditions, which fees and insurances are already included and what may still have to be paid locally. Booking a rental car in advance through an operator in Switzerland is usually cheaper than on the spot. Gasoline costs are comparatively low in the USA. Check the paperwork carefully when you pick up your rental car so you don’t get hit with additional fees. If you book in Switzerland, all necessary insurances are included in the price. Look at your confirmation and don’t let anyone “talk” you into any more insurance.
The renter and driver of the rental car must be able to present a credit card issued in his name !
All rental cars in America are equipped with air conditioning, almost always with automatic transmission and often now also with navigation device or you can rent this additionally.
We had previously booked our rental car with Hertz. Despite Gold Member status, we had a lot of problems and have switched to Alamo.
